Solar Switching Systems, Inc. dba S2 Systems, Inc. is seeking a Solar Mechanical Engineer to join our team at our Orange, California facility.

Position Summary

The Solar Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and support of mechanical components and systems used in solar energy applications, including AC recombiners, switchboards, transformers, and disconnects. This role collaborates closely with manufacturing, planning, sales, marketing, and engineering leadership to deliver reliable, cost-effective solutions that meet customer needs and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design equipment components, machine parts, and assemblies to customer specifications, with an emphasis on functionality, manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, safety, cost, and inventory efficiency

• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Planning, Sales & Marketing, and Engineering Management to evaluate design feasibility and support ongoing design improvements

• Submit, review, research, and implement Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)

• Develop prototype testing protocols and schedules

• Create mechanical and kinematic designs using industry-standard tools; perform calculations, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

• Provide follow-up support for new designs installed in customer facilities

• Support customers and end users with technical product inquiries

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, or a foreign degree equivalent

• Minimum of 24 months of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer, or in a closely related role

• Experience with:

  • AutoDesk AutoCAD

  • AutoDesk Vault

  • AutoDesk Inventor

  • Mechanical and kinematic design

  • FEA and GD&T
